Manufacturing

Because it is as important to scrutinize the manufacturing process as it is the farming, hessnatur has a department, Innovation and Ecology, dedicated to establishing and evaluating standards and monitoring the factories where our clothing is manufactured. Many textiles that claim to be organic, may only be grown organically. All that goodness can disappear, if the manufacturing process isn’t as stringent.

That’s why our environmental manufacturing standards determine who we work with. Our standards are simple and strict. “Simple” means that while standards like ours are difficult to achieve and maintain, they are easy to understand.

No dyes, finishes or chemical substances that can harm your health or the environment exist in the hessnatur textile chain.

Because natural dyes are not colorfast and the choice of natural coloring is limited, we use synthetic dyes. However, we ensure these are low impact, fiber-reactive dyes that contain no heavy metals, known carcinogens, or other toxic substances.

All waste water from dyeing and other processing goes through at least a 2-stage water treatment facility before being returned to the local rivers or water supply. That means the water we use is not polluted.

“Strict” means we never deviate from our standards.
