Our working environment
We don’t just ensure our environmental and social standards are upheld by the farmers and businesses we work with internationally. We start doing that right at home, here in Germany.
Our working home, our headquarters building in Butzbach, Germany, was designed and built to reduce environmental impact and save energy. All paints and materials are non-toxic. The only elevator in our building is there to move heavy shipments. If you aren’t a very large package, you take the stairs.
There is no air conditioning. None. And German summers can get surprisingly hot. All our electricity is supplied by alternative energy companies. Every piece of paper we use is 100% recycled and comprehensive waste separation and recycling exists throughout our company. Even the bins we use in the warehouse to store all our products are re-used cardboard boxes vendors have sent their products in.
We also have an organic café on the top floor, with long tables where we can all share excellent, healthy lunches prepared by Thomas. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried his eggplant schnitzel! We welcome our children, our spouses and partners to join us for lunch when they can.
In fact, family is central to everything we do. Work-life balance is not just a warm and fuzzy statement at hessnatur. We offer flex time and part time positions to everyone, even at the management level. Childcare subsidies and emergency childcare service are just some of the family-friendly benefits we provide.
Because we want to encourage life long learning, all hessnatur associates may take any classes they wish, from Pilates to design to a foreign language, any subject, at no cost to them. The only requirement is attendance in at least 75% of classes. We also subsidize monthly local transportation for everyone.
We treat each other with respect and honor the contributions we all make to continue the good work we endeavor to do. Every single day.
